Overview
In April 2007 the Centre for Alternative and Complementary Methods to Animal Testing (zet) founded the zet-Life Science Laboratory (zet-LSL) within the offices of the Upper Austrian Research GmbH (UAR), with a major focus on “Developing Alternative and Complementary Methods to Animal Testing” using modern cell and molecular biology techniques.
The objective of our laboratory is the autonomous development of alternative and complementary methods as well as the validation of animal-free methods, to advance their acceptance in international regulatory and toxicological safety-guidelines.
The long-term aim of zet-LSL is to attain accreditation as a partner laboratory of the European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ECVAM) so that it can operate – together with zet – as a contact centre for alternative and complementary methods of animal testing for cognizant agencies.
To achieve this objective, zet and zet-LSL cooperate with corresponding national and international institutions, like for instance, the Central Office for Registration and Evaluation of Substitute and Complementary Methods of Animal Experiments (ZEBET) of the Federal Institute of Risk Assessment (BfR) in Berlin, Germany
